What is an evidential medium reading — and how is it different from a psychic reading?
If you've been thinking about booking a reading but aren't sure what to expect — or whether a psychic reading and a mediumship reading are even the same thing — you're not alone. These terms get used interchangeably online, and the confusion is understandable. But they describe genuinely different experiences, and knowing the difference will help you choose the right session for what you're actually looking for.
Psychic reading vs. mediumship reading — what's the difference?
A psychic reading focuses on you — your energy, your circumstances, your path. A skilled psychic tunes into the energy field around you to offer insight on questions about your relationships, career, health, finances, or spiritual direction. The information flows from the living world: your past, your present, and the energetic patterns shaping your future.
A mediumship reading is something different. Its focus is communication with those who have passed — your deceased loved ones, family members, friends, or even beloved pets now in the spirit world. A medium serves as a bridge between the physical world and the spirit world, receiving and relaying messages, memories, and evidence from those who have crossed over.
Many practitioners offer both. In my own readings, I work as both a psychic and a medium — but the heart of what I do is mediumship, and that is where my strongest gift lies.
So what makes a reading "evidential"?
This is where it gets important — and where the quality of mediumship varies enormously from one practitioner to another.
The word evidential means exactly what it sounds like: the medium provides specific, verifiable evidence that the communication is genuinely coming from your loved one in spirit, not from general knowledge, cold reading, or educated guessing.
Anyone can say "your grandmother sends her love." That's not evidence. Evidence sounds more like this:
Describing the physical appearance of the person in spirit — their build, hair color, the way they carried themselves
Naming specific circumstances of their death
Recalling their occupation, hobbies, or the particular way they spoke
Sharing a memory that only the two of you would know
Referencing something that happened at their funeral
Demonstrating awareness of what is currently happening in your life — something your loved one couldn't have known while living
When a medium brings through this kind of specific, verifiable detail — unprompted, before you've confirmed or denied anything — that is evidential mediumship. It is the gold standard of spirit communication, and it is what sets a genuine reading apart from a vague or generic one.
Why does evidence matter?
Because grief is real, and you deserve more than comfort that could apply to anyone.
Many people come to a reading in genuine pain — having lost a spouse, a parent, a child, a dear friend. They are not looking to be told what they want to hear. They are looking for proof. Proof that consciousness survives physical death. Proof that their loved one still exists, still knows them, still loves them. Proof that the relationship didn't end with the last breath.
Evidential mediumship provides that proof — not through belief, but through specific, accurate, verifiable information that you recognize as true.
I have had clients receive the name of a food their mother loved. The exact words their father always said. A description of a private moment between them that no one else could have known. A message that directly answered a question they had been carrying for years.
These are the moments that change people, lift grief, and bring genuine closure.
What to expect in a reading with me
Before our session begins, I open in prayer and set the intention for spirit to come forward with clarity and accuracy. Your loved ones in spirit know you have made an appointment. They are already present and ready.
I work clairvoyantly — receiving strong visual impressions of the people in spirit — and clairsentiently, meaning I can feel their emotions and the physical conditions they experienced during their lifetime. I also work clairaudiently, hearing particular phrases, words, or expressions they used.
I do not ask you leading questions at the start of a reading. I lead with evidence. Only after I have brought through specific, identifiable information do I ask whether it resonates. This is how evidential mediumship is meant to work.
In a typical reading you might expect your loved ones to bring:
Their physical appearance and personality
How they passed, and what they want you to know about it
Specific shared memories
Awareness of what is happening in your life right now
The ways they are still present with you
Guidance or messages they want to convey
Beloved pets who have also passed
At the end of the reading, you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Will I definitely connect with the person I'm hoping to reach?
This is the question most people are thinking but sometimes hesitate to ask.
The honest answer is: usually, yes — but not always, and not always only them.
Spirit communication is not a vending machine. I cannot guarantee that any specific person will come forward, though in the vast majority of readings the people clients most hope to reach do appear. What I can tell you is that whoever does come through has something meaningful to say, and that the communication will be evidential — not generic.
Occasionally, someone unexpected comes through first: a grandparent you never met, a friend the client had forgotten about, someone from the family line who has been waiting for an opportunity. These moments are often the most surprising and the most profound.
In the rare event that no connection is established, I will either reschedule your reading or issue a full refund. This commitment reflects my confidence in the work — and my respect for what you've come with.
Can a reading be done by phone or Zoom?
Yes. Zoom and phone readings are just as effectively as in person.
I have given readings to clients across the United States and around the world. Physical distance presents no barrier to spirit communication. Your loved ones in spirit are not limited by geography, and neither is mediumship.
Phone and Zoom readings carry the same quality of evidence as face-to-face sessions. If anything, the distance removes certain unconscious cues that a medium might pick up from being in the same room as a client — which means the information that does come through is even more clearly coming from spirit.

How to prepare for your reading
A few simple things that make a difference:
Come with an open mind. Try not to have a rigid script of what you expect to happen or who you expect to appear. The reading will unfold in its own way, and the most meaningful moments are often the unexpected ones.
Let the evidence speak first. Resist the urge to fill silences or volunteer information before I ask. The reading is more powerful — and more evidential — when you allow the spirit to demonstrate what they know rather than confirming it in advance.
Know that your loved ones want to connect. In my experience across many hundreds of readings, the spirits of our loved ones are not indifferent or unreachable. They are aware of us. They want us to know they are well. And they are often more eager to communicate than we are to receive.
Bring your questions. Toward the end of the reading there will be time for you to ask what you've been carrying. You don't have to leave anything unsaid.
